Paper Works ~ SB* ~ page 134

We made paper beads in art class. There are many different shapes for beads, but we used the basic triangle and rectangle patterns. We used old color magazines, but you can use plain paper of any kind. After cutting out the shapes, we rolled the paper around a toothpick and sealed the end with glue. Although we did not spray our beads with varnish, that is something that will make them shiny.

Build A Better Future ~ SB3 ~ Pg 52

We went to the Mayfield dairy farms and toured the manufacturing plant. At this plant, they test and package milk. One type of machinery is called the Aerovac. They use this to get rid of any chemicals that might be in the milk. The Aerovac heats up the milk and when the milk reaches a certain temperature, the chemicals are vaporized. There are several other types of machinery used. Some are to put the milk in the bottles, transport the bottles, then to seal the bottles, to take the bottles to the next room and then, to crate the bottles. After this, they get taken to the cooling room. Mayfield uses yellow jugs to keep freshness in. They also have people who put samples of milk on cards to test if they have chemicals, or if the cows had been given artificial growth hormones. They test the milk at each farm so that if it is contaminated, they know where the contamination happened. They also test the temperature before, during, and after transport.
